Join our thriving Department of Chemistry as a Lecturer in digital chemistry.

  • You will develop an internationally leading independent research programme in the broad area of digital chemistry.
  • You will teach aspects of applied digital chemistry in both lectures and computational classes, more specialised units in the final year and contribute to our PGT course on Drug Discovery (joint with the department of Life Sciences), maintaining the University’s high standards in teaching and learning, and its inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • You will be supported to contribute at an appropriate level to the administration, leadership, and management of the Department’s activities.

About you

At Bath we offer an exceptional environment for research teaching and learning and we wish to support you in reaching your potential for internationally leading research, in the broad field of digital chemistry. We would be interested to hear from you if your research interests lie in digital chemistry in the widest sense (a non-exhaustive list):

Application Requirements & Selection Process:

Please provide both research and teaching statements of up to two pages for each in addition to a full CV.

Your research statement needs to outline your plans and intentions for research activity and grant capture over the coming five years. This document will be treated in the strictest confidence and with full respect for ownership. The teaching vision should outline your areas of teaching expertise and a range of potential teaching subjects as well as course development interests. These are mandatory components of the selection process, without which we will be unable to progress your application. In these documents you should also state how you will facilitate a positive and inclusive working environment at Bath.

Further information

This is a full time role (36.5 hours per week) with an expected start date of October 2026 or as soon as thereafter.

<![CDATA[Chair in Drug Discovery (SS13521)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=SS13521 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=SS13521 About the role

The Departments of Life Sciences and Chemistry are seeking an exceptional research leader to join us as Chair in Drug Discovery, a strategic joint appointment across the two departments that will help shape the future of therapeutic innovation at Bath and play a central role in the new Centre for Drug Discovery (CDD).

CDD is a major cross-faculty initiative bringing together chemists, biologists, data scientists and engineers to accelerate drug discovery through innovation in synthesis, screening, computation and translation. The Centre will focus on emerging modalities and enabling technologies from cyclic small molecules, peptides, antibodies and macrocycles exploring new 3D chemical space to AI-guided synthesis, flow automation and direct-to-biology screening. By integrating Bath’s strengths in synthetic chemistry, chemical and structural biology and advanced delivery science, the CDD will offer a distinctive environment for developing next-generation molecular tools and therapeutic leads.

About you

  • Demonstrate inclusive leadership and a commitment to fostering a diverse research environment
  • Have a strong track record of internationally recognised research in drug discovery
  • Are passionate about collaboration across disciplines and sectors
  • Can mentor and support researchers at all career stages including Bath Prize Fellows
  • Engage with industry and innovation networks to translate discoveries into real-world impact.
  • Can teach aspects of drug discovery in both lectures and laboratory classes and contribute to our PGT course on Drug Discovery (joint between the departments of Chemistry and Life Sciences), maintaining the University’s high standards in teaching and learning, and its inclusive and supportive learning environment.

While we encourage applications from a range of backgrounds, we particularly welcome candidates whose research aligns with one or more of the following areas:

Medicinal chemistry for emerging modalities such as peptides, molecular glues, PROTACs, ADCs or covalent inhibitors

Innovative screening approaches, e.g. DNA-encoded libraries, affinity-selection mass spectrometry, chemoproteomics or AI/ML-driven virtual screening.

Computational drug discovery including molecular design, macrocycle conformations, docking, or predictive models for permeability and pharmacokinetics.

About Drug Discovery at Bath

Drug discovery at Bath is driven by close integration between the Departments of Life Sciences and Chemistry, uniting expertise in peptide design, synthetic chemistry, chemoproteomics and computational modelling. Core strengths include chemical and structural biology, pharmacology and antibiotic discovery, with projects spanning early-stage molecular design through to pre-clinical mechanism-of-action studies.

Life Sciences provides cutting-edge laboratories for molecular and cellular biology, microbiology and pharmaceutical sciences, including tissue-culture suites, automated liquid handling and a zebrafish facility for in vivo pharmacology. Chemistry complements this with world-class infrastructure for automated and flow synthesis, compound characterisation (MS, NMR, DReaM Facility) and access to Bath’s High-Performance Computing and AI/ML platforms for virtual screening and molecular design.

Both departments have a strong track record in innovation with a number of spin out companies. The new appointment will join a vibrant cross-faculty community engaging with industry, the regional 四虎影院4 innovation network and opportunity to benefit from the South-West Life Science network.

Together, these resources offer an exceptional environment for innovative researchers to develop and test new approaches to molecular discovery.

Informal enquiries & application

For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Amanda Mackenzie, Head of Life Sciences (prsam@bath.ac.uk) or Professor Matthew Jones, Head of Chemistry (mj205@bath.ac.uk). Please ensure applications are submitted via the University’s online system. Alongside the online form, upload a full CV.

This is a full time role (36.5 hours per week). Interviews for this position will take place on 22 and 23 June 2026 (a 2 day process).

We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive working environment for all staff, including mentorship and flexible working arrangements. The Departments of Life Science, Chemistry and the University currently hold Athena SWAN Silver awards, and we are working to further improve equality, diversity and inclusion for the benefit of all staff. If you would like to discuss any issues or other aspects of the working environment with a member of staff who is not involved in the recruitment process, please contact Prof Stephen Husbands, Director of Research in the Department of Life Sciences (prssmah@bath.ac.uk).

<![CDATA[Prize Fellow in Drug Discovery (SS13517)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=SS13517 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=SS13517 Prize Fellowship in Drug Discovery

The Departments of Life Sciences and Chemistry invite applications for a Prize Fellowship in Drug Discovery, an exceptional opportunity for an emerging research leader to develop an independent, internationally recognised programme at the interface of chemistry and biology. The position will be run as a joint appointment across the two departments.

This prestigious Fellowship is aligned with the new Centre for Drug Discovery (CDD), a cross-faculty initiative bringing together chemists, biologists, data scientists and engineers to accelerate drug discovery through innovation in synthesis, screening, computation and translation. CDD will focus on emerging modalities and enabling technologies from cyclic small molecules, peptides, antibodies and macrocycles that explore new 3D chemical space, to AI-guided synthesis, flow automation and direct-to-biology screening. By coupling Bath’s strengths in synthetic chemistry, chemical and structural biology, and advanced delivery science, the Centre will provide a distinctive environment for developing next-generation molecular tools and therapeutic leads.

We seek a creative and collaborative scientist tackling fundamental challenges in contemporary drug discovery, ideally with a strong grounding in chemistry and an interest in applying molecular or computational technologies to biological problems.

About the Prize Fellowship

The Bath Prize Fellowship offers three years of protected research time and the opportunity for a permanent academic appointment, subject to performance. Fellows will have access to state-of-the-art laboratories for automation, high-throughput synthesis, compound screening and advanced computation, and will join a vibrant cross-faculty community engaging with industry, the regional 四虎影院4 innovation network and opportunity to benefit from the South-West Life Science network.

About Drug Discovery at Bath

Drug discovery at Bath is driven by close integration between Life Sciences and Chemistry, uniting expertise in peptide design, synthetic chemistry, chemoproteomics and computational modelling.

Together, these resources offer an exceptional environment for innovative researchers to develop and test new approaches to molecular discovery.

Informal enquiries & application

For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Scott Lovell, Life Sciences (sdl35@bath.ac.uk) or Dr Alex Cresswell, Chemistry (ajc202@bath.ac.uk), co-leads of the Bath Centre for Drug Discovery. Please ensure applications are submitted via the University’s online system. Alongside the online form, please upload a full CV.

<![CDATA[Outreach Internships (CC13497)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=CC13497 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=CC13497 Shape the Future of Bath — whilst building yours!

We’re offering four dynamic placement roles for Bath students who want hands-on experience, real responsibility, and a chance to make a genuine impact on the journeys of prospective students. Whether you’re passionate about events, digital engagement, outreach, student voice or travelling to schools across the UK, there's a role here that’ll stretch your skills and grow your confidence.

The four roles are:

  • Campus Events Intern (CET)
  • Outreach Programmes Intern
  • Student Recruitment Intern (SRT)
  • Access & Participation Plan (APP) Impact Intern

Each role offers variety, training, and the support of experienced teams within Student Recruitment & Admissions. You’ll work closely with young people, ambassadors, colleagues and fellow interns — and help shape some of the most exciting and meaningful projects we run.

The roles

Campus Events Intern (CET):
If you love organising and bringing experiences to life, this role puts you right in the middle of our campus activity. You'll support and deliver taster days, residentials (like Discover Bath), open days, campus tours and school visits, ensuring prospective students get a true sense of what Bath has to offer. You’ll also help deliver talks on applying to university and coordinate the Outreach Ambassadors, including their recruitment, selection and training. Expect plenty of teamwork, juggling competing demands and creativity.

Outreach Programmes Intern:
This role focuses on our blended programmes such as Pathway to Bath and Apply with Bath. You’ll work both online and on campus, helping deliver sessions that support students from underrepresented groups — including young carers, care-experienced, estranged and forced-migration backgrounds. You’ll contribute to planning, content design and running sessions, using your own Bath student perspective to shape programmes that feel relevant and engaging. There’s also scope to support an additional team (such as social media), giving you freedom to tailor the placement to your interests.

Student Recruitment Intern (SRT):
If you enjoy meeting new people, travelling and representing something you’re proud of, this role is for you. As the friendly face of Bath, you’ll visit schools, colleges and higher education fairs across the UK, delivering workshops and sharing your insights about the application process, student life and your own Bath journey. You'll learn to present confidently, manage event logistics, and interact with a wide range of students, teachers and advisers. This role is ideal for someone who loves being on the move, is comfortable speaking to groups, and enjoys variety in their work.

Access & Participation Plan (APP) Impact Intern:
This role is perfect if you’re passionate about ensuring student voices genuinely shape university decision-making. You’ll support the evaluation and impact work behind our Access & Participation Plan, helping us understand what’s working and where improvements can be made. You’ll gather and analyse student feedback, support engagement strategies, contribute to evaluation activities, and help ensure our initiatives genuinely reflect the experiences, needs and priorities of current and prospective students.

What you’ll gain

  • Real, tangible experience: events, outreach, data, digital delivery, presenting, evaluation, teamwork — these roles are packed with transferable skills.
  • Professional confidence: you’ll be trusted with meaningful work, supported by experts, and encouraged to develop your initiative.
  • Community & collaboration: you’ll work closely with fellow interns, ambassadors and staff across multiple teams. Expect a friendly, supportive environment.
  • A serious CV boost: these roles give you experience directly tied to education, events, communication, outreach and organisational development.
  • Flexibility: some evening or weekend work comes with the territory — but you’ll also gain overtime in-lieu and a great sense of achievement.

What we’re looking for

We’re not seeking perfection — we’re looking for potential. Someone who is:

  • Enthusiastic about helping others succeed
  • A strong communicator
  • Comfortable with technology
  • Organised and proactive
  • Willing to adapt and dive into new challenges

Further information

These placements are challenging, dynamic, and sometimes demand some flexibility (including some evening or weekend work), but if you’re ready to make a genuine impact then apply now, via the University website.

This isn’t just another placement; it’s your chance to be at the heart of what makes Bath brilliant. Bring your energy, creativity, and determination – just real talk and real opportunities!

<![CDATA[Research Associate (PRIME Project) (ED13505)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ED13505 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ED13505 The Department of Psychology is seeking a talented and motivated Research Associate to join the UKRI-funded PRIME (Peer Review Improvement for Minimizing Bias in Evaluation) project

PRIME is an ambitious international initiative designed to test whether Results-Blind Peer Review (RBR)—a review process where decisions are based on the introduction and methods before results are revealed—can reduce publication bias and strengthen the reliability of scientific evidence.

This project will deliver the first large-scale, real-world randomised controlled trial of RBR, working in collaboration with a range of scholarly publishers across sectors.

Bias in peer review contributes to the over-representation of positive findings in the scientific literature, undermining evidence quality and distorting policy and practice.

PRIME addresses this challenge by evaluating whether RBR shifts editorial decision-making toward methodological rigour and away from outcome favourability.

It also investigates the feasibility and acceptability of implementing RBR within journal workflows, and will generate actionable policy recommendations, guidance materials, and communication resources to support improvements in peer review.

About the role

The post holder will play a key role in coordinating aspects of the trial, assessing the methodological characteristics of submitted manuscripts, contributing to analysis and interpretation of trial outcomes, and supporting the development of resources informed by behavioural science and stakeholder consultation.

They will work closely with the Principal Investigator and with partners across the UK and internationally.

As part of the University’s commitment to research staff development, the post holder will be supported to undertake professional development, including a minimum of 10 days per year pro rata.

We welcome applications from candidates who have:

  • A PhD in Psychology, Epidemiology, or another relevant discipline, with strong training in quantitative research methods and inferential statistical analysis.
  • Experience evaluating empirical research, including extracting data from research articles and assessing methodological rigour or study quality (e.g., using structured checklists).
  • A strong commitment to open research practices, such as transparent coding and analysis pipelines, reproducible workflows, pre-registration, or open data/materials, in line with sector-wide best practice.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to work with quantitative datasets and interpret statistical evidence.
  • (Desirable) Experience conducting meta-analysis or synthesising effect-size data across studies.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and time-management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with researchers, international partners, and publishing stakeholders.
  • An interest in metascience, peer review, research integrity, or improving scientific processes more broadly.

Additional information

This is a fixed-term post of approximately 9–10 months as a 1FTE role.

We are open to supporting part-time working with a longer duration. A 0.6 FTE would be feasible if the individual could start immediately. 0.8 FTE or above is preferred. Please note your request for part-time working in the last supporting statement of your application.

The exact duration will depend on the appointed candidate’s start date and working pattern, and the post must finish no later than 31 August 2027.

A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to Research Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to Research Associate once their PhD has been awarded.

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be directed to Dr Katherine Button (K.S.Button@bath.ac.uk).

<![CDATA[Research Associate (Experimental Methods) (ED13299R)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ED13299R /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ED13299R We are seeking a Research Associate in Experimental Methods to lead a programme of research and capacity building within the Brunel Centre, alongside the UKRI-funded From the Centre to the Periphery project team based in the Department of Education.

The post represents an outstanding and exciting opportunity for an early career scholar who wishes to establish themselves as a future leader in experimental social science research.

You will be responsible for promoting the awareness and knowledge of experimental methodologies across the West of England and beyond – visiting partners to give talks and meeting with stakeholders. A major part of this work will be implementing the Brunel Experimental Methods Academy (BEMA) – a capacity building initiative that aims to bolster the awareness, knowledge and expertise in experimental research methodologies of those working in industry and public policy across the West of England and beyond.

This includes recruiting interested parties to BEMA, designing and running the training elements of the Academy, and maintaining online presence and resources.

Alongside this important capacity building activity, you will work with academics in the Brunel Centre to develop research proposals using experimental methodological designs. Working with colleagues appointed to such bids, and the wider academic team, you will be expected to publish from this funded research in relevant leading academic journals, including methodological publications.

About us

From the Centre to the Periphery project aims to develop the policy solutions that are needed to close gaps in education and skills across the UK to ensure opportunity is not constrained by geography.

It adopts a quasi-experimental methodological research design, that includes both large-scale analysis of Linked Educational Outcomes (LEO) data with qualitative case study research across 12 locations in England. The work is funded by the UKRI Trial Accelerator Fund (TAF).

The UKRI Creating Opportunities Trial Accelerator Fund is aimed at enabling the research and innovation community to test interventions that will spread opportunities and reduce spatial disparities in economic, health and social outcomes for people and places across the UK.

Whilst part of the wider project team, you will sit within the Brunel Centre. The Brunel Centre is a new research and insight hub launched by the 四虎影院, University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) and Futures West, with £4.5 million in funding from Research England. It provides independent, real-time, open-access data for and about the West of England economy, helping businesses, investors, and policymakers make better decisions across areas such as productivity, skills, innovation, trade and investment.
