Get help when you are locked out of student accommodation

What to do if you can't get into your room or accommodation block, or you have lost your keys or access card.

Temporary key or access card

If you lose your key or access card, University staff can help you regain access with a temporary key or access card.

Campus accommodation

John Wood and Carpenter residents are advised to go to Green Park House Reception for replacement keys and cards.

Outside of these hours contact the Security team to check if your key or card has been handed in. They are available 24 hours a day on +44 (0)1225 383853.

They will check whether your key or card has been handed in and arrange access if needed.

Do not attempt to force entry to buildings or rooms. You may be charged for any damage caused.

Library cards

If you believe to have lost your library card but need time to look for it, we will deactivate your card temporarily. This means the card cannot be used by anyone else. Once you find your card, please go to your nearest hub and they will reactivate it for you.

Replacement keys and cards

Replacement keys

Replacement keys cost 拢20. If you later find a key, you must return it to an Accommodation Centre and the charge will be removed.

Replacement library cards

Replacement library cards cost 拢5. You must first collect a replacement from the Library and then have it programmed at an Accommodation Centre. Students living in the Quads must go to the East Accommodation Centre to activate their card. If you later find a key, you must return it to an Accommodation Centre and the charge will be removed.

Losing your key and card along with your address details

Never carry your key or access card together with your address details. If both are lost together, your insurance may be invalidated. In such cases, the University must change the locks on your accommodation at a charge of 拢60.

Door faults

If you notice a fault with your door, lock, key, or access card, contact your Accommodation Centre. Between 9am and 5pm. After 5pm, contact the Security desk in the Library.
